If being hard on yourself isn't working, it's time to try something else.

It's often easier to point out our flaws than see the good in ourselves, isn't it? So many of us struggle with self-kindness for a myriad of reasons:

  • We were taught we need to be tough on ourselves to grow.
  • We were encouraged to hold ourselves to impossibly high standards.
  • We were told that who we are is too much or not enough.
  • We learned to judge our bodies against touched-up magazine covers.
  • We've grown tired of our failure to change into who we want to be, who we feel we should be by now.
  • We're busy striving for perfection, always quick to point out how we can improve.
  • We're worried that self-kindness will lead to self-indulgence and laziness.

In reality, research shows that self-kindness helps us have better health: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Plus, it actually helps us accomplish more and experience more personal growth.

What might happen if you began to treat yourself with kindness and compassion rather than constant criticism and disappointment? The gift of accepting yourself as you are is that you're free to show up fully in your beautiful uniqueness. You can live from a place of knowing that you have amazing value and worth—not for anything you’ve done or accomplished, but simply because you are you, and you exist in this beautiful world.

When we've got years of self criticism under our belts, though, self-kindness takes some practice. That's where 31 Days of Self Kindness comes in. With super practical exercises, journaling pages, and encouragement, you'll be invited to experiment with self-kindness and see how it impacts you mind, body, and soul.

Perfect for the person who:

  • struggles with self-criticism
  • feels stuck in their personal growth
  • tends to be hard on themselves
  • struggles to bounce back after set backs
  • wonders how self-compassion might help them
  • wants to learn how to practice self-kindness
  • desires to listen to and learn from their body
  • wants to learn to give themselves the kindness they so freely give to others

If you're exhausted from being hard on yourself and ready to try something new, 31 Days of Self Kindness is for you!

More about 31 Days of Self Kindness from the author

I’ve lived most of my life believing that I had to hold myself to higher standards. I believed I was too smart to make mistakes and too strong to need help. But then life happened. I experienced failure, betrayal, toxic relationships, and breast cancer, and I finally had to face the fact that I’m human. I will make mistakes. I will struggle. I will need help. I have limitations and needs and emotions. And I’m learning that’s okay.

Little by little, I started replacing my impossibly high expectations for myself with self-kindness and self-compassion. Over time, I’ve started to feel free simply to be me, resting in the fact that I am loved and valuable not for anything I do or produce or accomplish, but simply because I exist.

Despite what many believe, self-kindness isn’t self-indulgent. It doesn’t make you lazy or unproductive. In fact, research shows that people who are kind to themselves are healthier and get further in the long run. Perhaps most striking, though, is that self-kindness allows you to show up as your whole self, accept your whole self, and connect with your whole self in a deeply empowering way.

This book is all about walking alongside you on the journey of self-kindness. Over 31 days, you’ll discover helpful truths, practical tools, and engaging exercises that will remind you that you are worthy of kindness and compassion.

Often, books like this cause anxiety and shame: You miss a day and start feeling behind and then get down on yourself for being behind. It’s a negative thought spiral that ends in unnecessary pain and grief. So let me offer this to you: this book contains 31 days of exercises, but it doesn’t have to be done in 31 consecutive days. Pick it up when you’re able, set it down when you need to, and finish it in your own time. Consider this your first practice in self kindness: allowing yourself to walk this journey at whatever pace is most helpful to you.

You’re about to embark on a journey of kindness, compassion, and freedom, and I’m so honored to be along for the ride. My hope is that you’ll walk away feeling loved, seen, and valuable—not for anything you’ve done or accomplished, but simply because you are you, and you exist in this beautiful world.
